The Hampden Swimming Institute

Delivering you the pathway to competitive swimming, for swimmers aged from 8 to 18 years.  You can engage in fun club nights through to our high-performance squads that target New Zealand's major national meets.  To become part of the Hampden Swimming Institute you will need to join the Nelson South Swimming Club (NSSC) which will affiliate you with Swimming Nelson Marlborough and Swimming New Zealand.

  2. Book an assessment to ascertain the correct squad.  Please email to set up an assessment.

Seahorses

Swimmers in this squad are part of a technique-based program teaching all 4 strokes.  Seahorses may compete at Nelson South Club Nights, Club Champs, and local meets. They attend two sessions per week in summer and once a week in winter.

Talent ID Squad

Swimmers in this squad have developed skills across all strokes and are ready to develop both competitive and training skills. TID squad members are encouraged to swim at Club and local swim meets.  They train three sessions per week in summer and two sessions per week in winter.

  • Cap and goggles
  • Fins
  • A big smile :-)

JAG Squad

Swimmers who are part of the JAG squad are now in a phase of development where they are learning to train and attend 4 sessions per week in summer and 3 in winter. JAG Squad members attend Regional meets with the target of qualifying for the New Zealand Junior Festival or attending South Island Country & Town.

Youth Squad

This squad is training towards qualifying and competing at the New Zealand Junior Festival and Age Group National meets as well as local and club meets.  Swimmers have five sessions per week

  • Freestyle snorkel
  • A winning head space!

National Squad

National Squad swimmers follow a program that starts to focus on their stronger events and distances.  They are training for optimal performance at National meets.  National swimmers have 8 sessions available.  7 to 8 sessions are required for optimal development.
